Why are web series getting more popular than TV shows?


Living without entertainment seems to be a nightmare nowadays. Even the kingdom of old times had great musical instruments, dancers and sports like chess, wrestling, silambam etc. for entertainment. In this ultra-modern era where we talk about AI and Machine Learning, entertainment has taken a technological turn and now we have video games, televisions, Alexa and much more to make our lives easier. But the only thing that makes you entertain 24x7 are smartphones and I’ll bet none disagreeing it.

With a phone in every hand, it makes easier for every person to carry all his favorite shows wherever he goes. Thus, I believe this is one of the major reasons for transforming our entertainment world into digital entertainment. TV shows had a lot of limitations and the censor board was one of them. This didn’t make any harm to viewers, but the writers had to script the stories, keeping censor board into account. This didn’t help them a lot to express their actual thoughts or facts which they wished to convey to the audience.

As online web series has no relation with censor boards, writers are free to put up whatever they wanted, be it brutal murder, abusive words or sex. With the release of some web series like Sacred Games, Mirzapur and more, which created an amazing hype among youth, writers and directors got majorly diverted towards making web series.
